Biography:

Born on November 11, 1971, in Imo State, Nigeria, Ezedire Victor Agbakwuru is a contemporary painter residing in Abuja, FCT, Nigeria. Ezedire specializes in oil paintings on canvas, with a distinctive style inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. His art is renowned for its abstract impressions, achieved through the bold use of oil sticks, with vivid colors that blend seamlessly, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of abstract forms.

Ezedire's artistic vision centers on revealing the inherent beauty and unity in life, often through predominantly female figures. A hallmark of his work is the intentional blurring of details, which sharpens as the viewer steps back, adding an intriguing visual dimension. This technique invites a subjective and immersive engagement with the artwork, making each piece a unique experience.

His notable projects include "Reactions of the Brain," a solo exhibition at the Embassy of Turkiye in Abuja, Nigeria, where his mastery of abstract impressionism was prominently displayed. Ezedire's art captures the essence of emotion and connection, delving into the profound depths of human experience.

Ezedire's contributions to the art world have been recognized globally, with his work featured in prestigious exhibitions and collections. His solo exhibitions include "In Suo Fordere" at Palazzo Viccidini in Abuja, Nigeria, and "Capturing Essence" at the Ogirikan Art Gallery in an online format. He has also participated in group exhibitions such as "Contemporary Abstraction" on Artsy and "Imagination, a Journey through Abstract Art" at Taag Gallery, both in online showcases. His work has found its way into various private national and international collections, underscoring the universal appeal of his art.

Artist Statement:

Art, for me, is a journey into the essence of existence—a pursuit of beauty, connection, and the unseen forces that shape our world. Through my oilstick paintings, I explore abstraction as a means of storytelling, where vibrant color and fluid forms merge to create dynamic compositions that shift with perception. My work is best experienced from a distance, where the interplay of texture and light reveals itself in unexpected ways, allowing the figures and emotions within the canvas to emerge organically.

Drawing inspiration from the expressive strokes of Van Gogh and the ethereal luminosity of Monet, I embrace movement, imperfection, and the power of suggestion. My paintings, often centered mostly on female figures of African descent, celebrate identity, resilience, and the quiet strength found in human presence.

At the core of my practice is a fascination with perception—the way the mind constructs meaning from fragments. My approach blurs the boundary between abstraction and form, compelling the viewer to step back, reconsider, and find harmony within the ambiguity. In doing so, I seek to evoke introspection, emotion, and a sense of unity that transcends cultural and geographical divides.

From solo exhibitions at the Embassy of Turkiye in Abuja to international showcases, my work continues to evolve, reflecting my ongoing dialogue with the abstract and the tangible. Every painting is a meditation on the fluidity of human experience—an invitation to see beyond the surface and embrace the beauty of the undefined.
